Will my child’s learning profile change over time? Do I have to pay again to retake the test after that?

This largely depends on individual children. As you go through these strategies with your child, you may experience that he may outgrow some of these strategies. However, it usually takes quite a long time before their entire learning profile changes to the point of requiring another test. Instead, we recommend that parents focus on understanding the underlying principles behind the report, allowing them to understand their children better and eventually create their own strategies for their children.

Are there any after-school programmes that I can sign up for my child after getting the report?

We do not offer specific after-school programs. The report is designed to equip parents with the insights and tools needed to better understand their child and effectively apply targeted strategies at home. We also provide workshops to guide parents in implementing the strategies outlined in the report. If you find the strategies challenging to implement, we suggest starting with one or two areas of immediate concern, such as enhancing learning motivation, rather than trying to address everything at once

How many learning profiles are there?

There are 8 unique learning profiles. For more information on these profiles, head over here.

Does my child have to read instructions on the assessment to perform the test?

The assessment is designed to be age-appropriate, ensuring that children can participate comfortably. A short instructional video introduces the assessment, making it easy for children to understand. Before and in the middle of each section, there is a tutorial that guides children on what to expect.

The instructions in the tutorials are illustrated and explanations provided both in written form and through narrated audio. If your child is unable to read the text, they can listen to the narration to follow along.

Who should I contact if I face technical issues?

Please send a description of the issue you are facing to support@heyopenmind.com. If you're an existing customer, do include the ID in your email for us to help you more efficiently.

What if my child cannot sit still and concentrate to complete the assessment?

We understand that some children may find it challenging to complete the assessment in 1 sitting. Typically, the assessment can be completed over 2 to 4 sittings, with a total duration of approximately 120 minutes. Breakpoints are built into some units, allowing your child to take breaks as needed.

We recommend completing one unit before taking a longer break or continuing on another day. The assessment consists of several test units, each containing a tutorial, a test, a teaching segment, and a follow-up test. Depending on your child's age and school level, there are usually 3 to 4 units.

For more detailed instructions, please refer to the user guide attached to the email containing your LPAD ID.

Are parents required/ allowed to be present during the assessment?

Yes, at least one parent is required to administer the assessment. This includes tasks such as starting the computer, logging into the site, and pausing the test for breaks. However, to ensure the accuracy of the report, parents should avoid coaching the child, providing hints, or answering questions. The child should complete the assessment independently to reflect their true abilities and understanding.

If your child really needs assistance, you may explain 1 or 2 questions without critically impacting the assessment results. This assessment is designed to gauge your child's learning propensity, so it's okay if they don't know the correct answer to every question. In the event that they do not know the answer despite trying, it is recommended to skip the question rather than guess the answer. Encourage them to try their best, and affirm their efforts throughout the process.

How can I ensure that the questions in the assessments are age-appropriate for my child?

The assessment is grounded in over 80 years of research and has been administered to thousands of children worldwide. The difficulty level of the test is carefully calibrated according to your child's age and school level. This approach ensures that the questions are appropriately challenging and relevant for each age group

Does my child have to take the assessment again if I upgrade to the OpenMind Plus?

No, your child does not need to retake the assessment if they have already completed it for the OpenMind report.

Is the assessment for OpenMind and OpenMind Plus different?

No, the assessment is the same for both OpenMind and OpenMind Plus. The test is comprehensive and designed to accurately reveal your child's profile, behaviours, and characteristics across various areas.

Is OpenMind suitable for special needs kids?

Yes. The assessment is suitable for learners with special needs, including those with learning disabilities that specialists would have diagnosed, moderate to high-functioning autism spectrum disorders, and high-functioning Down syndrome.

However, the process of performing the assessment will require heavy ministering with an adult close beside to guide from defaulting the questions.  In addition, the recommended strategies that are generated upon completion will not be adequate to address those with such needs.  Hence, we recommend that children who display visible signs of such special needs approach specialists in the field first.

Is OpenMind suitable for neurodivergent kids?

Yes. It is suitable and equally beneficial.

Is OpenMind suitable for children with learning difficulties?

Yes. While early learning needs apply to all young children, special needs are specific to children who require additional support due to various disabilities or challenges. In the early years, some children might be identified as having special needs when they do not meet typical developmental milestones or show signs of learning difficulties.

OpenMind is designed to accommodate children who show early learning difficulties and advocates earlier intervention to optimise the plasticity rate of one’s learning mind to build strong foundations for future years of learning. The earlier in age where such gaps are flagged out, the better to apply interventions especially where the mind’s plasticity is best during the early years.

Is OpenMind suitable for kids with ADHD or Dyslexia? How is this different from ADHD / Dyslexia assessments?

Yes, however OpenMind is not a diagnostic tool for ADHD/Dyslexia – the assessment was designed by an aggregation of various critical test categories measuring different cognitive aspects of any learner.  It examines the entire cognitive process, including how information is gathered (input), processed (elaboration), and communicated (output), which findings are reflected in the OpenMind reports.

This comprehensive approach contrasts with ADHD and dyslexia tests, which often focus on specific symptoms or deficits, potentially missing the broader context of a child's cognitive abilities and potential for growth. The LPAD aims not to label children with a diagnosis but rather seeks to understand and enhance their cognitive functions in the various aspects, as a diagnosis that can lead to a fixed perception of the child's abilities.
